Our first European trip with our Caravan…. We were a little nervous of the journey into the unknown…. but that soon disappeared when we found La Tournerie. The site is situated at the end of a dead end lane approx 10 mins off the main road that runs from Montignac to Sarlet. No passing traffic noise …. other than occasional dragon flies or the hoot of an owl. BLISS!
My wife booked the site in advance as we wanted an Adults only site (no kids but even better, this was dog-friendly. Not just dog-friendly but Dog heaven! Here you can select a pitch that is fenced with a gate so you basically have your own private garden that your dog gets to roam freely in. Our top corner pitch was absolutely beautiful and HUGE! Our dog Norman was in his element, and so were we. No more tangled long leads consistently wrapped around something it shouldn’t be or people looking at you with those ‘get your dog away expressions’.
Russ (the site owner) was there to welcome us in and show us the ropes … The most lovely, friendly, and great fun Yorkshireman … who is living the dream out there.
There were only 4 other vans on the site when we visited last month …. who we came to know are all regulars…. and you can’t help but see why. Its so peaceful and beautiful –
with excellent facilities. Big showers in private cubicles, clean as a whistle and never busy as there just aren’t enough pitches to make it ever crowded.
We loved the surrounding areas, which we have explored more were it not for the fact that the weather was a bit too hot for us and Norman. The closest Village is ‘Saint-Amand-de-Coly’. a twenty minute walk, postcard beautiful with an abbey that still stands even after 1000 years!
Russ has an old Citroen 2CV called ‘Charlie’ (amongst other toys) which he keeps for off roading. We took him up on his kind offer to go for a tazz! Paula, me and even Norman in the back. It was an absolute hoot!! Charlie is a ‘bumpmuncher’ extraordinaire. I was also lucky enough to be treated to a couple of hours out riding some of the trails with Russ on one of his trail bikes… what an afternoon!
So…. all in all, we had the most amazing time. we’ve already booked before leaving to go back in May.
Thanks again Russ for having us and for your hospitality. We can’t wait to be back in May! Till then, keep living the dream!
All the best,
Simon, Paula and Norman!
